This week I poured a small cement pad for storing trash cans and helping rainwater not to sit next to the house in the mud. It was a small project, but it will help keep the area cleaner for our friends. I love projects like this because they help a home look cleaner and reduce the amount of maintenance around the house.

Planning and flexibility are important parts of projects, digging out the dirt on the side of the driveway to allow the water to drain properly. I added an angled side to the original front of the cement at the request of the homeowner to help make it easier to move the trash cans in and out of the storage area.

Digging out the ground a few inches helped make the top of the cement level with the driveway, but also removed the grass and tree roots which would have caused cracking and issues in the future.

This was a small project, 18 bags of 80 pound concrete. I bought 22 bags to have extra, any time I pour concrete, I buy extra, if you run out before you finish, it could mess up the entire project. Cement is forgiving while you are mixing and pouring it, but once it starts to set, there is no time to go back to the store to buy more.

Do you have a project around your house that needs done? Reach out and see how we can help.
