Our latest project was updating the front window shutters. The house had simple store bought vinyl shutters.

We looked through ideas and decided on a cedar wood design that would update the appearance of the front of our house. We scrolled through google for inspiration and then I went to drawing up a simple sketch of what our new wood shutters could look like.
Then it was off to the store to buy our supplies. next was getting all the new cedar boards cut to length and laying them out in the sketched out design. after a few adjustments it was time for glue and screwing each board together.

A few details that I chose to implement was using screws for each connection and wood glue. this will add longevity to the shutters, as an exterior product, the seasonal changes with cause the cedar to expand and contract, using screws instead of nails will help hold everything together longer. I also build the shutters upside down, this took a little more time, but the result was that none of the assembly screws were left visible when the shutters are installed on the house.

The updates we make at home are fun to work on, and add value that we want to last, so if it takes a few minutes longer, we are okay with that, because we know it will make each improvement to our home last longer. We offer the same to you for the projects that we get to work on, we build with quality materials and take the time to make them last.
